Save & Share URLs with This Browser Extension
Whether you’re a casual bookmarker or a power user managing a daily stack of links, the My URL Clipper browser extension (available for Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome) makes it fast and intuitive to save, view, and share URLs—all with just a few clicks.
In this guide, we’ll walk through the main interface, how to use it, and how to create Custom Actions using the powerful %url% variable.
Note : This guide relates to version 1.2
🏠 Home Interface: One-Click Simplicity
Upon clicking the extension icon, you’re greeted with a clean, colorful interface. Each button serves a distinct purpose:
- Save URL: Captures the current tab’s URL and stores it in your local database.
- View Saved URLs: Displays all your saved links, with edit and export options.
- Right-Click History: Tracks any links you’ve saved using the right-click context menu.
- Options: Opens settings for advanced configurations.
At the bottom, you’ll see Custom Actions, which we’ll dive into shortly.
📋 View Saved URLs
When you click View Saved URLs, you’ll be presented with a simple table showing:
- Title (editable)
- URL
- Date/Time Added
- Action buttons like Edit, Export, or Clear
You can export selected URLs or the entire list. Great for archiving or syncing elsewhere.
🖱️ Right-Click History
When you right-click a link and choose Save to My URL Clipper, it appears in the Right-Click History tab. This helps you keep track of incidental saves you may have forgotten to manually tag.
⚙️ Custom Actions with %url%
In the Options page, you’ll find a section called Custom Actions. This is where the magic happens.
✅ Enable Custom Actions
Make sure Enable Custom Actions is toggled on.
🧠 How It Works
Each Custom Action is a name + URL combination. The %url% variable is replaced with the currently selected or saved link. These actions will then appear as clickable buttons on the main extension icon when left clicked.
🧪 Example Custom Actions:
| Action Name | Command |
|---|---|
| Share to Facebook | https://www.facebook.com/sharer/sharer.php?u=%url% |
| Share to LinkedIn | https://www.linkedin.com/sharing/share-offsite/?url=%url% |
| Share to Mastodon | https://mastodon.social/share?text=%url% |
You can create as many as you want for any platform that accepts sharable URLs.
➕ Add a New Custom Action
- Scroll to the bottom row in the Custom Actions section.
2. Enter the name (e.g., “Share to Twitter”).
3. Add the command URL using %url% (e.g., https://twitter.com/intent/tweet?url=%url%).
4. Click Save.
5. Click the ➕ button to add another one.Your new action will now appear as a button on the main screen for quick use.
🧹 Cleanup and Export
Both the Saved URLs and Right-Click History pages allow you to:
- Export selected items or all items.
- Remove selected items or clear the entire list.
This keeps your workspace tidy while giving you full control over your data.
🏁 Final Thoughts
My URL Clipper is a tool for anyone who regularly works with URLs. It respects your time and workflow, and with the Custom Actions, you can turn your clipboard into a command center.
Whether you’re sharing to social media, archiving URLs, or just organizing your day, this extension is a must-have.
